Streaming Using Mash from http://www.openmash.org

Steps:

  1. Download current mash from openmash.org website
  2. http://www.openmash.org/users/windows.html
  3. Double click the downloaded file in order to unzip.
  4. Click on the mash directory
  5. Click on the setup file in order to begin installation. The setup file is a dos batch file and it will walk you through the rest of the installation.

Internet Service Provider Needs To Support Multicasting.

Steps to check to see if mulicasting is supported.

  1. Go to the mash directory
  2. Click on nsdr application

The nsdr window should appear after a flash of a DOS console.

If your ISP supports IP multicasting,annoucements will appear in the window. The annoucements announce sessions that are currently being streamed online using multicasting.

There may also be programs listed in the window.

Different Kinds of Programs

  1. vic in the beginning of a program indicate the program is for multicast video.
  2. vat int he beginning of a program indicate the program is for multicast audio.

Functions in the Windows
Located on the bottom of the window are tabs for various functions.

New|Help|Quit

  1. Help will give you a very simple help window.
  2. Quit will exit the program
  3. New will allow the user to create a new session

New

Clicking on new will cause a new window, nsdr:Edit Program, to appear.

Steps for a new session: audio

  1. Open nsdr
  2. Click on new
  3. Type in a new session name
  4. Click on the tab for media stream
  5. Under properties choose audio
  6. Choice the proper format of the audio stream
  7. PCM -
    DVI
    GSM
    LPC

  8. The protocol is set to RTP/AVP
  9. Choice if layering is needed or not
  10. If layering is choosen the number layers needs to be entered. There may be a need to scroll down in the layering area to view all options.
  11. Choose if the stream address scope is Globally or Admin Zone.
  12. Enter in the address to be used.
  13. Enter in the port number
  14. Click on the Times tab
  15. Enter in the time for the session.
    Choice the duration of the session.
    There is an option to have the session repeated and the frequency of the repeat.
  16. Once completed double-check settings then click create.
  17. The new session should appear in the nsdr window.

Checking Program
  1. Click on program in the nsdr window/
  2. New window will open that contains the program information.
